Key Features
- Downlink Ports: 8 × 1G (Gigabit Ethernet RJ-45) data-only ports (no PoE)
- Uplink Ports: 2 × 1G combo ports (RJ-45/SFP combo) for upstream or backbone connections
- Power over Ethernet (PoE): Not supported in this model (“T” = no PoE)
- Switching Capacity & Forwarding Rate: Approx. 20 Gbps switching capacity, ~14.88 million packets per second (64-byte packets)
- Dimensions (W×D×H): Approx. 10.56 × 7.28 × 1.73 inches (~268 × 185 × 44 mm)
- Weight: ~1.55 kg
- Fan / Noise Fan-less model (silent operation)
- Operating Temperature: -5 °C to +50 °C for normal use
- External Power Supply: Yes, uses external PS (“E”) variant
Features & Benefits
- High Data-Throughput for Critical Applications — Eight Gigabit ports offer ample capacity for ordinary office, file, and data services.
- Flexible Uplink Options — The 2 combo RJ-45/SFP uplinks let you utilize traditional copper or fiber, depending on your uplink or backbone needs.
- Quiet & Compact — Noise is reduced with the fanless design, and the compact form factor makes it easy to install in high-traffic locations or even outside of standard wiring closets.
- Simple Management — Supports simple-to-use web UI, command line (CLI), and can coexist with Cisco’s Business Dashboard.
- Solid Security Features — Includes standard features such as 802.1X, DHCP Snooping, IP Source Guard, dynamic ARP inspection, and more to protect your network from illegal access and assaults.
Usage / Installation Scenarios
- Data-only switching for branch office or small office networks where PoE is not required.
- Connecting PCs, servers, storage, and printers, with no extra power needs at endpoints.
- Uplink to high-speed backbone or aggregation switch, especially over fibre (using SFP) or copper uplink.
- Quiescent areas (offices, classrooms, retail) that require minimal noise and tidy physical presence.
- Areas where expense is a concern and PoE is not a requirement, but reliability, performance, and security are still required.
Technical Notes / Important Considerations
- You will require separate power for devices like wireless access points, cameras, or IP phones, as this model does not support PoE
- The combo uplink ports share hardware paths; using the SFP option may require appropriate modules.
- The fanless design limits moving parts, but make sure to allow ventilation around the unit.
- Use Cisco’s own proprietary Linux-based OS, and it will perform Layer 2 and some restricted features of Layer 3 (static routing, etc.) — adequate for small-scale networks with extremely heavy routing needs.
- Operating ranges are wide in ambient conditions, but high altitude or high temperature can lower reliability; check the datasheet for specific altitude vs temperature limits.
